National Blue Sunday is April 29, 2012

This is the day churches take a moment to pray for the victims of child abuse and pray for those who rescue them. Won’t you ask your church to join in this life-changing effort?  It’s free. Nothing to join. Just prayer.  There are children in your own community that need your prayers.

This year due to a scheduling conflict for the foster children the Christmas party had to be moved to the same day as little Christopher’s birthday. When asked if he minded moving his party to another day he agreed and said he was glad to share his real birthday with the foster children.

Last week his parent received a call from St. Mary’s where Christopher attends school. It was Ana Lindsey saying they were collecting money to help the foster children. When they asked how the school had heard about needing money for the Christmas party they explained that Christopher told them. Later that same day the librarian called saying she had books to donate….again after Christopher told her about the foster children. Before it was all said and done, young Christopher had collected $500, books and with the help of the Celeste Solis and the 6th graders at St. Marys, enough candy bags for all the foster children.

Congratulations Christopher! You are an amazing boy who made a difference for the foster children in Cameron Country!

Besides the pretend snow or nearly non-stop carousel rides, all the pizza a child can eat, jumping castles and slides, and candy bags there is something else happening at the annual Cameron Country Foster Kids Christmas Party – HOPE. Hope rises up every time a child gets to be with their brothers and sisters. Hope that they are going to be ok. Foster children who are able to stay in contact with siblings have fewer issues. While every effort is made to keep siblings together it isn’t always possible. Imagine the holidays without your family. So when you see the pictures or hear the stories remember we are making memories, happy memories for children who won’t be home this Christmas.

Off your rocker is a term for Grandparents who are raising grandchildren. If you are a family member, aunt, uncle, cousin etc. helping your family then you need to know about what is happening today.

Click GRAND RALLY and pray that Congress hear’s the call to protect social security for children who have lost their parents.

Only 101 days till Christmas! I know that sounds crazy but not if you have Foster Kids on your mind! Hope you will remember our county’s foster children when you consider where to give this Christmas. We have 2 major needs:

1. Foster Kids Christmas Party. This was started by Blue Sunday 9 years ago and now we join Cameron County Child Welfare Board in hosting this important event. This day is all about making good Christmas memories for siblings and hopefully it will take some of the sting out of not being with family on Christmas day. Financial goal for this event: $2000

2. Christmas is typically all about toys drives for younger foster children but there is nothing in place for the Foster Teens except the annual Blue Sunday’s Foster Teen Christmas Project. We have a goal of providing a $20 gift card for every teen in foster care in Cameron County. Imagine being a teen and not able to see your family on Christmas much less get the same gifts the younger children get. Financial goal for the project is $4000

390 Attendees at our Blue Zoo Day for Foster Families and CPS Families. What a great time. One precious little boy kept repeating over and over again outside the zoo gates. “I want to go in, I want to go in, I want to go in.” His face went from serious to ecstatic once he was convinced he really was going to get to go in!

It was great to see board members Kenny Salazar, Samantha Garcia, and Sara Lacy there helping to greet children, hand out tickets and stickers, taking pictures, and encouraging the families. We also welcomed a new volunteer, Jennie Miller from Harlingen. She said she had a blast and can’t wait to help with our next program.
